Simple Nudes
Simple Nudes is a photographic series in a controlled environment with a few specific set shots to act as a foundation and spring board for the exploration of the nude. Each individual brought one special thing to set themselves appart from the others. Sometimes this was the location change and wearing clothes, being pregant, or brandishing an 8 inch knife.
Each person followed a simple series of position changes; first sitting on the chair, then standing, and finally without the chair. The idea was to have the person begin in a closed and protected physicality and end in completely open and interacting with the light.
Each photo session began with me asking the model to sit on the chair without any further instruction. I allowed the model to choose how to begin and proceeded throughout the exploration with my "set shots" guiding us through 3 or 4 rolls of film.
The series ended with show at The Chocolate Factory on Long Island City and showed 30 16x20 photographs. 10 people and 3 shots of each.
Below is a small selection.
